The brief nobody warns you about

Aged care asks more of a chair than almost any other space.

A chair in an aged care facility has to do the near-impossible. It has to be wipe-clean for infection control, yet feel nothing like a hospital. It has to hold a resident of 60 kilos or 250 with the same dignity. It has to help someone stand who can't push up on their own — and still look like something you'd happily have in your own living room.

Get it wrong and you're re-upholstering inside two years, or worse, a resident quietly stops coming to the day room. Get it right and a space calms people, supports the staff who work in it all day, and reassures the family walking through on their very first tour.

That gap — between clinical necessity and genuine human comfort — is the entire job. It's what we specify for, room by room.

What aged care really demands

We specify for the realities, not the brochure.

Infection control & easy-clean

Wipe-clean, non-porous surfaces that stand up to hospital-grade disinfectants, with minimal seams where pathogens hide. Cleanable in seconds, between every resident.

Antimicrobial fabrics & healthcare vinyls

Sector-specific upholstery — antimicrobial fabrics and moisture-barrier vinyls — for high-touch and isolation areas. Hard-wearing, and still warm to the touch.

Safe transfer & fall reduction

Considered seat height, arm shape and ingress/egress geometry, so residents sit and rise with confidence and staff can assist safely.

Bariatric & high-care capacity

Reinforced, load-tested frames across lounge, dining and visitor seating — to 250–350kg — specified without singling anyone out.

Dementia-friendly design

Tonal contrast between seat, frame and floor, clear edges and familiar forms that aid orientation and ease anxiety.

AFRDI-certified & compliant

Ranges tested to AFRDI (including Level 6 severe-commercial) and GECA-rated where it matters — specified to meet aged care standards and the 2025 Aged Care Act.

Every space, its own job

One facility. Five very different problems.

01

Resident rooms

Personal and homely, quietly capable: a supportive armchair a resident can rise from unaided, and a bedside chair that's easy to clean.

02

Communal lounge & living

The heart of the home. High-back chairs, companion sofas and recliners that draw people out of their rooms and hold them for hours.

03

Communal dining

Stable, wipe-clean dining chairs with arms to push up from, at the right height for assisted eating and mixed mobility.

04

Entrance & waiting

The first impression for every family. Welcoming, accessible seating that says "cared for" before anyone says a word.

05

Staff & back-of-house

The people who give care all day deserve to sit properly too: durable, ergonomic seating for handover and tea rooms.

Solutions in practice

The same brief, solved in every room.

Why facilities choose us

We're not selling you a range. We're solving your brief.

Most suppliers can only offer what they make. We source across a wide network of Australian and international manufacturers, so the specification fits your residents, your clinical requirements and your budget — not a factory's catalogue. We handle it end to end: category schedules, trade pricing, AFRDI-certified ranges, delivery and installation, one point of contact from brief to handover. Australia-wide, and backed by a 10-year structural warranty on the pieces we specify.

Questions we get asked

Aged care furniture, answered.

What furniture is used in aged care facilities?+

Supportive lounge and high-care chairs, recliners, companion and bariatric seating, dining chairs with arms, bedside and visitor chairs, plus staff and communal furniture — each specified for infection control, safe transfer and comfort.

What makes a chair suitable for aged care?+

The right seat height and arm design for safe sit-to-stand, easy-clean or antimicrobial upholstery, a stable load-rated frame, and a look that feels like home rather than a hospital.

What is AFRDI Level 6 and why does it matter?+

AFRDI is Australia's independent furniture testing body; Level 6 is its severe-commercial rating. It's your assurance a chair will survive years of continuous aged care use.

Do you supply bariatric and high-care seating?+

Yes — reinforced, load-tested ranges to 250–350kg across lounge, dining and visitor seating, specified discreetly alongside the standard range.

What upholstery is best for infection control?+

Antimicrobial fabrics and moisture-barrier healthcare vinyls with minimal seams, compatible with hospital-grade disinfectants.

Can you meet dementia-friendly design guidelines?+

Yes — we specify tonal contrast, clear edges and familiar forms that support orientation and reduce anxiety.

Do you deliver and install across Australia?+

Yes — we manage procurement, delivery and installation nationwide, as one point of contact.

Have you furnished aged care facilities like ours?+

Yes. We work with residential aged care and retirement providers across Australia, and can provide references from comparable facilities on request.

What does your warranty cover, and how long will the furniture last?+

Our ranges carry structural warranties of up to 10 years and are specified for years of continuous, high-use service. Full written warranty terms — including mechanism and upholstery — are provided with every quote.

Can you re-cover or repair furniture rather than replace it?+

Yes. Covers and components can be replaced rather than binned, extending service life and lowering whole-of-life cost — and we help you match the range when you extend a wing or a site.

Can you install in an occupied facility with minimal disruption?+

Yes. We install room-by-room, out of hours where needed, with police-checked, site-inducted installers, and we remove all packaging and your old furniture.

What are your lead times?+

Lead times depend on the range, fabrics and volume. We confirm firm timelines with your quote and can prioritise staged rollouts to meet handover dates.

Can you provide compliance documentation for a tender or accreditation?+

Yes — AFRDI certificates, fire and antimicrobial specifications, cleaning protocols, warranty terms and certificates of currency, provided with your quote.
